how to remove 5v regulator (mod to use with ext 5V ps)

just in case someone needs it.

My board blew the 5 v regulator when i supplied battery’s (4 x NiMh AA - 4.8 volt) to the “servo” socket only.
so i desoldered it and bridged it to get 5 Volt from the sockets.
( use right click - view image)

please DO note that doing this means:

  • you can ONLY provide 5 Volt (not MORE) at BOTH the “logic” and/or the “Servo” socket.
  • applying 5 Volt to the “Servo” socket is enough, no need to add extra 5 Volt to the “logic” socket

If you removed and bridged the regulator and you want to drive the servo at 6 Volt then you need ALSO to remove the “diode from servo socket”.
If the “diode from servo socket” is removed you NEED to

  • apply 5 Volt (no more, no less) to the “logic socket”
  • apply up to the max voltage your servo’s allow (normally 6 Volt) to the “Servo” socket.
